ABOUT ME

Printmaker

I enjoy making prints using traditional printmaking media like lithography, intaglio, screen printing, monoprinting and relief, and I've worked hard to find non-toxic alternatives to the traditionally toxic printmaking materials like nitric acid, lacquers and petroleum-based solvents.

I received an MFA in Printmaking from Northern Illinois University and a BFA in Drawing and Printmaking from Aquinas College, Grand Rapids, MI

In addition to creating and exhibiting my own prints, I teach printmaking and drawing full time at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR.

I occasionally offer non-toxic printmaking workshops at the following locations:
Salem Art Association, Salem, OR
Multnomah Arts Center, Portland, OR
Ash Creek Arts Center, Independence, OR
Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, Otis, OR (near Lincoln City, OR)

PORTFOLIO

Recent Projects

My most recent series of monoprints was inspired by patterns of tire tracks I observed during a snow storm.
First I inked up the wheels of a Lego car that had rack-and-pinion steering so I could recreate the patterns made by cars as they pulled into and backed out of parking spots. Once I had those patterns, I made several relief blocks by cutting strips of yoga mat which I glued to plexiglas and then inked and stamped onto the printmaking paper.
I also did some simple 'trace transfer' monoprints by inking up the glass tabletop, laying smooth washi paper on it, then rolling Lego cars across the back of the paper to transfer ink everywhere the wheels pressed down. These monoprints are each one-of-a-kind prints. They are not editioned.
